Work and Education
Tara is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner who specializes in pediatric emergency medicine. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Baylor University in the fall of 2009 and went on to pursue her interest in nursing, graduating from Texas Tech University of Health Science Center with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in December of 2014.

While working as a Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse at Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) in Houston, TX, she completed her Master of Science in Nursing with a subspecialty in Family Medicine at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in the fall of 2017. Tara continued her career at Texas Children’s Hospital and has been working as a Nurse Practitioner in the emergency center and urgent care centers since the fall of 2018.

Tara holds certifications in Advanced Trauma Life Support as well as Pediatric Advanced Life Support. She is currently working towards her Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) certification and completed the UTMB Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program in April of 2023.

She has a passion for education and has taught undergraduate nursing students for the last five years within the acute care setting. She comes to Baylor from Sam Houston State University where she was quickly promoted to Clinical Course Coordinator for Pediatrics and taught traditional BSN students in both the classroom and in clinical arenas at Texas Children’s Hospital – Texas Medical Center.

Committees
Since joining Baylor as full-time faculty in January of this year, Dr. Hill has begun work with the Faculty Affairs Committee at Louise Herrington School of Nursing and hopes to assist with Global Initiatives/BU Missions in the very near future. Tara is also an active member of the Advanced Practice Provider Outreach and APP Medical Staff committees at TCH.

Articles and Presentations
Outside the classroom, Dr. Hill has joined forces with the American Academy of Pediatrics to assist in their nation-wide initiative to advance the approach to neonatal sepsis in the pediatric emergency setting and she most recently applied to participate in what is known as the BARCK QI Collaborative at TCH which stands for Better Assessment & Responses to Croup in Kids. The study aims to reduce overutilization associated with the evaluation and management of children who present to an acute care setting with croup. Tara has also given presentations to current DNP students at her alma mater, the University of Texas Medical Branch, on Tips and Tricks of the Trade as it relates to Scholarly Practice Projects and to fellow APPs at TCH on CVs vs biosketches. 

Community  
Aside from spending time with her husband and two children, Tara is an active member of several professional organizations including the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Houston Area Nurse Practitioners, and the Houston Area Chapter of NAPNAP.
