Kenya Mission Trip 2025
In May 2025, Dr. Laura Butler and Dr. Katy Vogelaar led an interdisciplinary team of students from various academic departments to serve in Kenya in partnership with Naomi's Village. Education majors assisted in a K–12 school affiliated with Naomi's Village, offering college preparation guidance to high school students and leading professional development workshops for faculty. Nursing students gained firsthand experience in the Kenyan healthcare system through hospital visits and collaborations with a local nursing program. They also participated in school health screenings and community outreach programs focusing on prenatal education and supply distribution. Social Work students shadowed counselors and explored the Trauma Sensitive Schools initiative at Cornerstone Preparatory Academy. Students compared international and domestic social work practices, examining key differences between the NASW and the IFSW. BU Engineering students worked on sustainable infrastructure projects, including the installation of a solar power system and the development of a rainwater catchment system.
