Work and Education
Dr. Stacia Hays is Associate Dean for Graduate Education and Clinical Associate Professor for the Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing. She is also a board-certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with an active pediatric practice. She is a current Primary Care Editor for the Journal of Pediatric Health Care. And holds national certifications as a Nurse Educator, Clinical Transplant Coordinator, as well as a Certificate in Public Health. Prior to her role at Baylor her experience includes DNP Program Director and Coordinator for Pediatric Primary and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner tracks. Dr. Hays has extensive leadership with institutional Quality Improvement initiatives and project development. Her teaching is informed by her clinical, leadership, and institutional experiences while incorporating a variety of educational modalities. Internationally, she has been involved in developing a credentialing process for advanced practice nursing in Brazil.
Professional Organizations and Honors
Dr. Hays is highly accomplished and recognized in her field as a pediatric and nursing advocate. She drives leadership in improving care of children and advocates for the profession of Nursing and NP practice. She has served as an elected leader in local, state, national organizations and international organizations and chaired a variety of committees. She is working with leaders from The Center to Champion Nursing to reimagine the state Action Coalition. She recently led a national workgroup for human trafficking protocol development and is an invited speaker on the topic. Dr. Hays has been the International Conference Chair for the International Transplant Nurses Society and National Conference Co-chair for the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. She was a member of the Pediatric Rural Healthcare Task Force and Regional Lead for the Florida Action Coalition. She has been an elected member to the several University committees. Dr. Hays is a member of the National Task Force for Quality NP Education and the national APRN Licensure, Accreditation, Certification, Education (LACE) Committee and active in national leadership on academic program initiatives. As an advisor to the UF Health Patient Safety and Nursing Practice Council, she developed a system for uniting nursing schools with quality improvement initiatives.
Dr. Hays is the recipient of state, national, and international leadership and advocacy awards including America’s Top 10 NP Award, Florida Advocacy Icon Award, International Transplant Coordinator of the Year, Nurse Practitioner of the Year, Advocacy Scholar Award, and Emerging Nurse Leader. Dr. Hays is a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and current Treasurer of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners.
Articles and Presentations
Dr. Hays scholarship focuses on nursing quality and advocacy, and improving resiliency in children due to trauma, disasters and chronic illness. She is an invited presenter nationally and internationally on NP practice and vulnerable populations. She contributes to textbooks, publications from nursing organizations, as well as podcasts and other media. She has presented at state, regional, national and international levels on the topics that include care of chronically ill children, NP advocacy, and human trafficking.
Community
Dr. Hays is passionate about mentoring and giving back to communities and nursing through active leadership in professional societies and community activities. As a rural health practitioner and NP advocate, she demonstrates advocacy through legislative engagement at state, national and international levels. She drives leadership in improving care of children and advocation for the profession of Nursing and NP Practice in her state and nationally. As a member of the Alliance for Children in Trafficking (ACT) she trains nursing and other healthcare professional to respond to human trafficking in their communities. She volunteers as a camp nurse and is an active member of her church.
