The DAISY Award at LHSON
The DAISY Award
What is the DAISY Foundation and DAISY Award?
The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died from complications of an autoimmune disease at the age of 33, to share appreciation for the great nursing care provided in his car. The DAISY Award® is a special honor given to extraordinary nurses for the compassionate contributions they make every day going above and beyond expectations in science and sensitivity. The program provides a national recognition program for nursing schools to highlight the extraordinary care of their nursing students and teaching of nursing educators.
DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nursing Students
The DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nursing Students recognizes and celebrates nursing students who have "gone above and beyond” in showing care and compassion to a patient or their family. A nominated student is one who is dedicated, motivated by compassion, genuinely caring, adaptable, and demonstrates not only the best clinical care but showcases dignity and kindness to their patients, families, and their communities.
The DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurse Educators
The DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nursing Faculty recognizes and celebrates the contributions that nurse educators make on future nurse professionals. Extraordinary nurse educators improve practice and ensure future patients receive care from educated, competent, and proficient nurses. Students, faculty and staff are invited to nominate a nurse educator by sharing compelling stories that highlight excellence in their teaching, mentoring, compassion, and care.
