Work and Education
Dr. Owen has been practicing as a Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner since 2017. She continues to practice in the pediatric urgent and emergency care setting. She began her teaching career at University of Arkansas as a clinical instructor in 2017 and became a full-time faculty member in 2020. Dr. Owen spent over two years developing and teaching in a new concept-based accelerated BSN program at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She joined Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing as full-time faculty in the Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program in Fall 2024. 

Committees
Dr. Owen is active in Nursing School Committees. In her previous role, Dr. Owen served on the Baccalaureate Curriculum Committee, Faculty Affairs Committee, and the inaugural SEC Nursing Professional Development Committee. She is also a member of NAPNAP, AAP, ILCA, and Sigma Theta Tau.

Articles and Presentations
Outside the classroom, Dr. Owen is actively researching innovative simulation strategies in promoting critical thinking in undergraduate nursing students. She has also researched breastfeeding support strategies in the primary care environment and presented some of these findings at the Arkansas Breastfeeding Symposium. Dr. Owen has also published recommendations for pre-participation sports physicals in children and adolescents.

Community  
Dr. Owen enjoys spending time with her husband and three sons, and she is an active member in her children’s school as a homeroom mom, PTO member, and volunteer. She has also helped provide free sports physicals for rural school districts in her community.
