Work and Education
Professor Yoon brings over eight years of experience in nursing education, having taught at Loyola University Chicago and the National University of Singapore. She has served as Course Director for Community Health Nursing, where she oversaw clinical placements, design class activities, and guided student learning. This core undergraduate course integrates nursing and public health concepts through both theoretical and clinical components.
In addition, Professor Yoon teaches Evidence-Based Research to undergraduate students, where she mentors them in critically appraising scientific literature and understanding how research informs and guides nursing practice. She has also supervised students in honor’s programs, supporting their independent research projects. Many of these collaborations have led to student co-authored publications in peer-reviewed journals, providing students with valuable experience in academic writing and dissemination of research.
Committees
Professor Yoon has actively contributed to various committees, including the IT Committee and serving as Co-Chair of the Houses program, where she supported undergraduate nursing students through student-led activities and managing peer-mentoring programs. She also served as a Longitudinal Patient Experience Tutor, mentoring interprofessional teams comprising students from Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Dentistry.
Articles and Presentations
Professor Yoon recently presented her work at the International Nursing Education Conference, sharing findings from her study, "Experiences and Feasibility of an Online Peer Mentorship Program for Accelerated and Post-Graduate Nursing Students: A Mixed-Methods Study." Her research team was awarded funding from the Singapore Ministry of Education to further explore peer mentoring through an AI-powered mobile application.
Her scholarly work focuses on improving the quality of life for cancer patients and their caregivers and in the role of advance care planning. She has published several articles in this area.
Community
Beyond academia, Professor Yoon is actively involved in her local church, where she co-leads a marriage Bible study group with her husband. Together with their two sons, her family participates in Flash & Light, a missionary support group that serves missionaries globally. They have been especially involved in children’s ministry and in supporting local teachers and missionaries in Batam, Indonesia. Having lived in Brazil, Mexico, Korea, and Singapore, Professor Yoon has a deep passion for global mission work and cross-cultural service.
