Work and Education
Dr. Halli Carr is a Clinical Assistant Professor and DNP-Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Track Coordinator at Baylor Louise Herrington School of Nursing (BLHSON). She has been an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) since 2007 and actively practices in Cardiovascular services. She is employed by the Heart Hospital and currently sees heart and vascular patients at Baylor Scott & White--Lake Pointe in Rowlett, TX. Her previous background is in Trauma Surgery, ER, and Surgical Critical Care as both a nurse and APRN. Dr. Carr is also a surgical first-assist. She began her teaching career in Nashville in 2007 as a clinical instructor. Dr. Carr has been teaching full-time at BLHSON since 2019.
Committees
In the past, Dr. Carr has served on many Nursing School Committees at her previous institutions. At present she serves on the Graduate Faculty Committee, Graduate Policy Committee, Graduate Curriculum Committee, Peer Review Committee, DNP Coordinators Committee, DNP Project Committee and Program Effectiveness Committees for BLHSON. She also serves on the Spiritual Life Advisory committee for Baylor University. Dr. Carr also serves as an officer for Sigma Theta Tau—Eta Gamma chapter as membership chair.
Articles and Presentations
Outside the classroom, Dr. Carr has contributed significantly to research and clinical practice surrounding organ donation. She helped develop the clinical protocol used by Southwest Transplant Alliance to manage potential organ donors throughout Texas and has presented her research around the world. She has spoken locally at hospitals and meetings, nationally at nursing conferences, and internationally as an invited speaker for Sigma Theta Tau’s International Research Congress. She has published articles on clinical practice in nursing journals and serves as content expert and peer reviewer for the American Nurses Association (ANA), American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), the Journal of Research and Theory for Nursing Practice, and the Intensive & Critical Care Nursing Journal.
Community
Finally, Dr. Carr is active in her community. She lives in Garland, Tx. She is a member of First Baptist Church of Rowlett. She loves to cook and spend time with her family. She is also a member of Samaritan’s Purse Disaster Response Unit (DART) and Baptist Global Response’s disaster deployment team. Dr. Carr has served overseas on disaster/medical mission and teaching teams in countries like Ecuador, Brazil, Ghana, Zambia, Greece, Cambodia, and Nepal.
