Work and Education
Professor Amanda Callahan began her nursing career as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) graduate from Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC) in 2007, and she later went on to graduate from TVCC with her Associate Degree of Applied Science in Nursing (ADN) in 2011. Amanda continued to pursue an advanced nursing degree and graduated from South University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), magna cum laude. She then graduated in 2018 with honors and earned her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) specifically in Nursing Administration.
Professor Callahan’s professional RN experiences include adult and pediatric perioperative nursing, adult intensive care unit (ICU), medical surgical, and the care of the geriatric patient. She served as Adjunct Clinical Faculty at Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing (LHSON) starting in fall 2021 and later joined full time in June 2022 as a Simulation Educator. She teaches in the Professional Nursing Practice Lab with Level 1 students, and she facilitates Level 1 simulations and clinical orientations, Level 2 Maturing Family Simulations and Medical Surgical simulations, and Level 4 Transition to Practice and Community Simulations. She coordinates and helps to facilitate the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Management 2 Graduate Immersion experience. Professor Callahan also helps facilitate and coordinate the Perioperative Nursing elective for our Level 4 students.
Professional Organizations
Professor Callahan has been involved in many professional organizations, such as: Canadian Alliance of Nurse Educators (Can-Sim), American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Simulation Professionals of Texas (SPOT), Texas Organization of Nurse Executives (TONE)/NTONE Dallas Chapter, and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN).
Awards and Honors
Recognized for her outstanding service to the Baylor University nursing school, she received the BU LHSON Faculty and Staff FAB Award in 2023.
Community and Family
Outside of work, Professor Callahan enjoys spending time with her husband, Chris, and her two fur-babies, Bentley and Cooper. She loves spending time with family and friends. Other hobbies include reading a good book, bingeing Netflix, and adding items to her Amazon cart.
