Alice M. Starr

Alice Starr is CEO of Starr Strategies Co., a consulting firm which assists non-profit organizations with marketing, public relations, event planning, and fundraising.  She served as vice president of a large commercial real estate firm and on the Cardinal Bank Board in Northern Virginia for 16 years. 

Since moving to Texas in 2010, Alice has served on many boards including as Chair of the Central Texas Food Bank, President of the Baylor Round Table, Chair of Esther’s Closet, on the Executive Board of the Waco Symphony, Co-Chair of the Art Center of Waco Legacy Society, Co-Chair of the Talitha Koum Institute Capital Campaign, Secretary of the National Museum of Women in the Arts Texas Committee, and on the boards of the Cameron Park Zoo, Mammoth Foundation, Mayborn Museum Board of Advocates, Waco Foundation Advisory Board plus the United Way Cabinet and President’s Council and the Dean’s Board of Advocates for the Louise Herrington School of Nursing.

In Washington, DC, she currently serves on Mount Vernon’s Washington Cabinet, the Supreme Court Historical Society Board of Trustees, and The House DC Advisory Board. She formerly served on the Childhelp USA and 21Wilberforce boards and was co-chair of the capital campaign for Jill’s House. She is former Chair of the McLean Chamber of Commerce, the Community Relations Council of Northern Virginia, McLean Project for the Arts, Volunteer Fairfax and the Fairfax County Public Library Foundation.  She was appointed to serve on the Virginia Commission for the Arts for five years.

She is the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Texas Association of Family and Consumer Sciences “Friend of the Family Award,” the “Baylor School of Nursing Service Award” and the Union Rescue Mission “Heart for Service Award.”  She received the “Woman of Distinction” award from the Centex African American Chamber and the “Miss Texas Woman of Achievement Award.”  Previously she received the “Outstanding Business Citizen of the Year,” “Lady Fairfax” and “McLean Citizen of the Year” awards plus a legislative commendation for her “outstanding service, dedication, and contribution to the Commonwealth of Virginia.”

Alice has a B.A. from Skidmore College and an M.Ed. in College Administration from the University of Miami. She and her late husband (former President of Baylor 2010-2016), Ken Starr, were married for 52 years and have three children and nine grandchildren.
