LHSON Hosts National Midwifery Conference

April 18, 2026

The Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing (LHSON) hosted over 250 attendees, April 18-19, 2026 for the Consortium of Texas Certified Nurse Midwives (CTCNM) Annual Summit, the Texas affiliate of the national organization, American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM). CTCNM supports the advancement of midwifery in Texas while connecting with Certified Nurse-Midwives, students, educators and healthcare leaders from across the state.

The two-day Summit also included a Midwives of Color Committee 2nd Annual Fundraising Soiree on April 18, inspired by the theme, “Together We Rise: Lifting Each Other Higher.” The special evening included dinner, a live band, Midwife of the Year Award, three student scholarships and one midwife grant award, plus silent auction and raffle. Congratulations to Sarah Jamison, who received one of the student scholarships.

“My experience at the CTCNM conference reinforced the importance of putting evidence into practice in ways that truly serve women and families. As our state faces alarming maternal mortality statistics, midwives must be part of the solution to help drive meaningful change. When collaboration and shared learning happen, real change can begin,” said Shirley Marion, DNP, APRN, CNM, Midwifery Track Coordinator, Clinical Assistant Professor, LHSON.

According to CTCNM, “the purpose of the Summit was dedicated to advancing the practice of midwifery, fostering professional growth, and improving the quality of maternal and neonatal care across Texas. This year’s theme was ‘Together We Rise: Advancing Midwifery in Texas’ reflecting on the commitment to working collaboratively to support the continuous development of midwifery skills, knowledge and advocacy.”

The LHSON is also proud to report that in U.S. News & World Report’s 2026 Best Graduate Schools, specifically Best Nursing Schools rankings, the Doctor of Nursing Practice program at the LHSON ranked in the Top 40 nationally at No. 37. Plus, in the specialty rankings, two Baylor LHSON graduate nursing programs are among the top programs in their fields:
