LHSON Clinical Simulation Center Relocates

Infusing a strong collaboration between The Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing (LHSON) and Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas (BUMC), the LHSON lab and simulation education moved to a new location at 1208 Hall in Dallas, just a few blocks from its former address. The building is over 56,000 square feet which is twice the size of the LHSON’s simulation building at 3700 Worth Street. 

“We are deeply grateful to Baylor Scott & White Health for allowing us to use the Wilma and Harry Bass Buildings for more than 60 years,” said Dr. Tanya Sudia, Dean of the LHSON. “In the fall of 2026 these two buildings will be demolished to make room for a new patient care tower and additional parking garage as part of a 7 to 8 year BUMC hospital construction project.” 

As a result, LHSON lab and simulation education has moved to a renovated facility at the corner of Swiss Avenue and Hall Street, formerly known as Our Children’s House. This will provide the LHSON access to a significantly larger facility that was formerly a 76-bed, acute care pediatric hospital with additional parking. The transition offers a truly unique opportunity to teach over 2,000 nursing students best practices in simulation in an authentic hospital environment.

“The advantages of simulation-based education is that learning in LHSON simulation is opportunistic ~ what you need, is what you get,” said Deborah Hogg, Simulation Director, LHSON. “Simulation-based learning experiences can be scheduled at convenient times and locations; they can be repeated as often as necessary – any clinical situation can be created and adjusted at will. Working in a simulated environment allows students to make mistakes and learn from these mistakes; learners gain powerful insight into the consequences of their actions without jeopardizing patient safety.”

LHSON Simulation is endorsed through Healthcare Simulation Standards Endorsement by the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL). LHSON simulation assists in the preparation of safe and effective professional nurses possessing the necessary skills and clinical judgment to provide quality, patient-centered care, through participation and engagement in a variety of simulation-based learning activities.

The history of Our Children’s House began in 1989 as a free-standing building on the BUMC campus with Victorian inspired architecture named Baylor Center for Restorative Care. The facility was designed for specialized pediatric rehabilitation and parent instruction for chronically ill or disabled children. Later rebranded as Our Children’s House at Baylor, the facility increased its services to offer inpatient acute and subacute care, severe trauma and ventilatory/palliative care. Those services eventually migrated to regional facilities and the building was closed and remained empty for many years until the new opportunity with the LHSON developed.
