Hosts 4th Annual Student Nurse Summer Camp 2026
The Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing (LHSON) hosted its 4th annual Student Nurse Summer Camp on Friday, July 31 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. welcoming 112 registered campers (9th - 12th graders from local schools) plus adult volunteers. The camp allowed students to hear from nursing faculty, nursing students and tour the LHSON and Baylor University Medical Center. The campers learned about the nursing school program and admission requirements and observed a few basic nursing skills at the simulation stations. The priority focus was on the campers engagement and interaction so they could gain an understanding of what it looks like to be in nursing school.
“The camp is a great experience for the high school students as well as the School of Nursing team,” said Lisa M. Jones, DNP, MPH, RN, CNEcl, Associate Dean for Pre-Licensure Program, Clinical Assistant Professor, LHSON. “The students learn all about the different opportunities offered within the profession of nursing. We encourage them to take care of themselves, do well in school, and consider being a part of our Baylor family. As the LHSON team works with the students and listens to laughter, excitement and answers questions we are reminded why we became nurses and why we teach.”
“Introducing high school students to the opportunities in healthcare help to provide them with a clear perspective on the field of nursing,” said Dr. Tiffany Flood, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, CNE, Clinical Assistant Professor and DNP-FNP Track Coordinator, LHSON. “We are happy to share the journey of becoming a nurse with them as they transition from high school into college soon.”
High School campers participated from Independent School Districts all across Texas including: Allen, Burkburnett, Carroll, Denton, Desoto, Everman, Frisco, Fort Worth, Garland, Grand Prairie, Hardin, Humble, Houston, Katy, Keller, Kountze, Lewisville, Lumberton, Mansfield, McKinney, Midlothian, Northside, Northwest, Plano, Port Arthur, Prosper, Rockwall, Round Rock, Timber Creek and Wylie.
