Work/Education
Melissa Malone graduated with her BSN from Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing. She obtained her MSN with a focus in education from Western Governors University. Her clinical experience includes adult progressive care, adult intensive care, and the post anesthesia care unit. She has spent many years teaching in nurse residency programs across the DFW region. During this time, she obtained certifications in gerontological nursing and professional development. She also published an article related to virtual nurse residency in the Journal for Nurses in Professional Development. In the fall of 2020, she joined LHSON as adjunct faculty, teaching lab and clinical for level one undergraduate students. In the summer of 2022, she joined the simulation team full time as a simulation educator. She now teaches primarily in the professional nursing practice lab for all undergraduate tracks and is this lab’s lead simulation educator. In her work of helping students obtain mastery of skills, she made significant changes to the open lab referral process and presented a poster outlining those changes. She also facilitates scenario-based simulation for multiple levels and courses. Melissa supports the AGACNP immersions and facilitates those students’ simulation.
Professional Organizations & Committees
Melissa has had the privilege to serve on the Healthy Work Environment Taskforce since starting full time at LHSON. She is also involved in the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, NLN, and American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
Community & Family
When she is not facilitating simulation, Melissa enjoys spending quality time with her husband, Kevin, and their two children, Callum and Isla. She loves reading, baking, and taking her two giant labradoodles, Chai and Mocha, for long walks.
