Zambia Mission Trip - Summer 2023
Nursing students from Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing will travel to Ndola, Zambia to serve through a community-wide outreach completed in collaboration with LHSON partners, Northrise University Initiative (NUI), and Northrise University (NU). Throughout this mission journey, this LHSON team will have the opportunity to participate in Impact Ndola 2023; an interprofessional initiative impacting women, men, and children of Ndola. Additionally, the team will plan to participate in a trip to Livingstone located in southern Zambia to experience the spectacular Victoria Falls and a safari. We welcome nursing students from both the graduate and undergraduate programs to consider this mission.
The team will have the opportunity to apply what they are studying at Baylor as they serve in nursing and medical outreach in schools for orphans and vulnerable children. They will conduct general screenings and health and hygiene education and will visit the local children’s hospital to learn more about the state of health care in the community. They will also potentially shadow practicing healthcare professionals and nurses to learn about the role of the nurse in community clinics (including the NU Clinic) and visit a local children's hospital. Plus, the team will potentially develop and provide education during a well-being health fair on such topics as non-communicable diseases and focused topics related to the health of men and women.
