Work and Education:
Dr. Jacquelyn E. Alvarado is a board certified nurse-midwife that will be teaching in the online DNP Nurse-Midwife track, Traditional BSN track, and the Distance Accelerated BSN (DABSN) track at Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing. She began teaching at Baylor University in January 2021 as adjunct faculty in the graduate program and will now serve as a clinical assistant professor across the multiple programs. Dr. Alvarado is a proud Baylor alumni and considers it an honor to return as faculty to help serve and prepare students for their future in nursing. With 15 years of specializing in women’s health and education she brings her experiences as a leader, clinician, and educator to the role of teaching future nurses and nurse-midwives. After starting the first full-scope midwifery-based practice in the Carrollton/Plano region she then became the first midwife on staff at multiple hospitals. This led to increased access to midwifery services to women and their families in the North Dallas area. After years of private practice she then transitioned to hospital-based midwifery care. In addition to patient care, she assists in physician resident education. She has been able to help welcome over a thousand babies into the world and provide midwifery services to women across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Her professional background also includes several years as a labor and delivery nurse and childbirth educator.

Articles and Presentations
Dr. Alvarado was recognized by Baylor University for her evidence-based clinical practice change for the administration of magnesium sulfate for fetal neuroprotection and was presented the graduating class capstone award. This led to a hospital-based practice change that is still in practice today. She presented this project at the UT Health Science Center San Antonio Summer Institute for Evidence-Based Practice Conference.
